CaroTrans Launches Innovative Door to Port Rate Application

CaroTrans Launches Innovative Door to Port Rate Application

– Web-based LTL/LCL rate calculator is latest addition to CaroTrans’ suite of e-tools –

CLARK, NJ, January 8, 2013 – CaroTrans, a leading global NVOCC (non vessel operating common carrier) and ocean freight consolidator, today announces an innovative Door to Port rate application which calculates a combined transportation cost for LTL (less than truckload) and LCL (less than container load) shipments for specific origin-destination routes.   Users receive a variety of route/sailing options allowing them to evaluate and select transportation services based on transit time/destination ETA (estimated time of arrival) and cost.  Comprehensive costs are computed based on origin and destination locations, cargo pick-up date, number of pieces, weight, and freight volume.  Calculating the cost of special cargo, such as hazardous, is also available.

CaroTrans’ customers easily access Door to Port Rates on the CaroTrans North America homepage to quickly and efficiently obtain total costs for U.S. inland and global ocean transportation services based on contract rates.

The Door to Port Rate application is CaroTrans’ latest addition to their suite of e-commerce tools which include: bookings, sailing schedules, LCL/FCL rates, tracking and inland rates.  With these easy-to-access e-commerce tools and gadgets, CaroTrans’ customers have a more efficient, streamlined way to process ocean freight transactions and retrieve shipment data.

“We created the Door to Port Rate application and the entire suite of e-tools to help our customers boost productivity and operational performance.  E-commerce tools add value and capabilities that increase time and cost savings for our clients and help them better serve their customers,” said Greg Howard, CaroTrans, Global CEO.

Potential ILA East Coast and Gulf Strike

Customer Advisory

December 20, 2012

Dear Valued Customer,

Contract negotiations between the ILA (International Longshoremen’s Association) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) ended abruptly Tuesday, December 18th.  With the end of the mediation period quickly approaching, there is an increased likelihood that the ILA will go on strike December 29th.  The ILA represents 15,000 dock workers handling containerized, and roll-on and roll-off cargo operations at a majority of terminals on the U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports.  A prolonged strike at affected locations would have a severe impact on freight movement to and from these ports, as well as all regions of the country.

In anticipation of significantly increased port congestion due to labor issues, carriers have announced congestion surcharges that will be applied on a per container basis.  CaroTrans has also filed a congestion surcharge of $20 w/m to coincide with these carrier increases.  Contingency plans have been established for a potential ILA strike similar to those implemented after Hurricane Sandy closed New York ports and the OCU/ILWU strike closed a number of Los Angeles and Long Beach Terminals.

If necessary, viable diversion options will be explored to maintain our customer’s transit time integrity.  No action to divert freight from its originally booked routing will be taken without your consent.  All plans are booking specific and will be directed by our CaroTrans Export and Import Customer Service Teams.

Shipment tracking updates will be provided at regular intervals in the event of a strike. Information on shipments status is always available on our website, carotrans.com, and reflects the most current data in our system.

If this strike comes about, we will work to minimize disruptions to your customer’s supply chain and quickly update you on this event.  If you have any questions, please contact your CaroTrans sales representative.

Thank you for using CaroTrans International

We appreciate your business

Hurricane Sandy Update 11/1

Hurricane Sandy Update, Thursday, November 1, 2012

Carotrans Branch Offices and Container Freight Stations (CFS) in Baltimore, Boston, New Jersey, Norfolk and Philadelphia are open and fully operational. And we can report that all of the facilities made it through the storm without sustaining damage to the structures or freight in our possession.

With the exception of NY/NJ, all ports in the region are open and operational. However, according to report on 10/31 at 17:30 from the Port Authority of NY/NJ; surveys of damage to Ship Channels, Berths, and Terminals should be completed by this weekend. Power had not been restored at the Terminals at the time of the report and operating capabilities of their equipment could not be determined.

Given the uncertainty of the situation at the NY/NJ port, CaroTrans will be rerouting all cargo currently held in our Northeast facilities to the best suited USA export gateways to maintain schedule integrity for our clients. Our customer service team will contact clients impacted by the storm with the options available.

Considering the gravity and changing nature of this event  we’ve enacted contingency plans designed to offer alternative routing options to maintain the full scope of services for our customers.

For further information please contact the CaroTrans customer service team.
