Customer Advisory 12-010 – Port Congestion Surcharge

Issue Date: November 30, 2012

Dear Valued Customer,

As you know, the East and Gulf coasts risk significantly increased port congestion owing to a labor union dispute that threatens work stoppages after December 31, 2012.  As a precaution, CaroTrans International, Inc. is filing a Port Congestion Surcharge (PCS) applicable to all shipments to and from ports in the United States and Canada starting January 1, 2013.

In the event of a labor strike and subsequent congestion, all contract and LCL tariff rates will be subject to the PCS as filed:

$20.00 w/m

Please note that this is a forward filing. Without work stoppage and subsequent congestion impairing operations, this surcharge and related tariff filings are null and void.

Please contact your local sales representative if you have any questions.

Thank you for using CaroTrans International, Inc.  We appreciate your business.

Hurricane Sandy Update 11/1

Hurricane Sandy Update, Thursday, November 1, 2012

Carotrans Branch Offices and Container Freight Stations (CFS) in Baltimore, Boston, New Jersey, Norfolk and Philadelphia are open and fully operational. And we can report that all of the facilities made it through the storm without sustaining damage to the structures or freight in our possession.

With the exception of NY/NJ, all ports in the region are open and operational. However, according to report on 10/31 at 17:30 from the Port Authority of NY/NJ; surveys of damage to Ship Channels, Berths, and Terminals should be completed by this weekend. Power had not been restored at the Terminals at the time of the report and operating capabilities of their equipment could not be determined.

Given the uncertainty of the situation at the NY/NJ port, CaroTrans will be rerouting all cargo currently held in our Northeast facilities to the best suited USA export gateways to maintain schedule integrity for our clients. Our customer service team will contact clients impacted by the storm with the options available.

Considering the gravity and changing nature of this event  we’ve enacted contingency plans designed to offer alternative routing options to maintain the full scope of services for our customers.

For further information please contact the CaroTrans customer service team.
