Amendments to U.S. Custom and Border Protection (CBP)
In-Bond Regulatory Process
As you may be aware, CBP has recently announced a new regulation which
stipulates that cargo moving in-Bond in the U.S. must contain a 6-digit level
Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States number ( HTSUS ).
CBP will also require very detailed commodity description. CBP will no longer accept general descriptions like electronics or plastic articles but will require the specific name listed on the commercial invoice.
The ruling will take effect on Nov 27, 2017. Failure to comply may result in
delays and penalties, enforced by CBP.
We have informed all our overseas agents accordingly and have asked them
to require the number for all in-Bond shipments from their customers.
